Better Off Fred

Cats have always been a part of our farm. From taking care of the mice, and occasional pigeon, they contribute in their own way. Fred, the remaining of three brothers, is the top cat today.

Fred is the oldest cat on the farm. He’s approximately seven, which makes him around forty in cat years. He has at least two sons, and probably more that I don’t know about. Besides being our number one milk tester, Fred also roams the valley around the farm keeping it safe from harm as only he can.

Today is National Cat Day, and we celebrate Fred and his family and friends. Despite what cat haters think –Killer cats: The invasive species in your backyard-, we know that Fred is awesome and should be appreciated.

Pour some milk in a bowl, and a little extra cat food, too; and don’t forget to give your favorite cat an extra scratch behind the ears.

  1. I’m far from a cat-hater; my cats always live long healthy lives indoors, exercising their hunting skills on mice in the cellar. My main yank is the destruction wrought by free-roaming pets on the songbird population. That being said, I understand the need for barn cats like Fred — long may he reign.
